Job Description

Huron Consulting Services LLC is hiring a Sr. Lead Data Engineer for its healthcare Insights Platform. This role focuses on translating business and analytical requirements into dependable, scalable, production-grade data solutions on AWS. You will design, build, deploy, and operate data pipelines, services, and applications, while providing technical leadership and mentorship to other Data Engineers. This position is eligible for participation in Huron’s annual incentive compensation program and supports full-time remote work.

Compensation: USD 140,000 - 228,000 per yearly (U.S. work authorization required). Location: Chicago, IL (remote). Position level: Manager.

What you’ll do

  • Design and produce level-of-effort estimates for changes to the Insights applications.
  • Develop high-quality updates to application source code, processes, and architecture.
  • Deliver fully tested code ahead of production deployment when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot application bugs and operational issues.
  • Coordinate with other engineers to ensure platform changes meet business needs.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to streamline processes and improve performance, availability, and functionality.
  • Help create project plans and capability roadmaps so technical solutions are structured and represented.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for system and solution designs.
  • Provide training to internal functional SMEs and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineers working on data solutions.

What you bring

  • U.S. work authorization is required.
  • A technical B.S. degree in math, engineering, or computer science (or equivalent work experience).
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 6+ years of professional experience with Python and SQL.
  • 6+ years of professional experience with cloud technologies, specifically Amazon Web Services.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals.
  • Experience working with version control systems (e.g., Git, Subversion).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly driven, multi-discipline engineering and product team.

Technologies you’ll work with

Python, SQL, AWS, Git, Subversion, PostgreSQL, DBT, CloudFormation, UNIX-based operating systems (Linux, Ubuntu), Snowflake, CloudFront, API Gateway, Lambda, ECS, Application Load Balancer, EC2, S3, VPC, Terraform, Apache Iceberg, Spark, Athena, Glue, monitoring and observability tools, and RDBMS and NoSQL. Healthcare standards include EDI/FHIR.

Preferred experience

  • Experience in an agile development process (Scrum preferred).
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL and Data Build Tool (DBT).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., CloudFormation).
  • Experience working with UNIX-based operating systems (Linux, Ubuntu, etc.).
  • Experience working with Snowflake, CloudFront, API Gateway/Lambda, ECS, Application Load Balancer, EC2, S3, VPC, etc.
  • Experience working with Git.
  • Experience with analytics-driven applications.
  • Experience with healthcare data and EDI/FHIR standards.
