Staff AI Engineer

David Joseph & Company is building a CFO office AI operating system, and this role focuses on the platform layer that helps engineering teams ship agent-based capabilities reliably and at speed. You will own core foundations across agent frameworks and context systems, orchestration, verification, observability, and the underlying data infrastructure that supports production workflows.

What you’ll be doing

• Own the platform layer that every engineering pod builds on, spanning agent frameworks, context systems, orchestration, verification, observability, and data infrastructure
• Act on engineering-wide constraints by identifying bottlenecks limiting the company rather than waiting for requirements from a PM or guidance from an architecture committee

What you bring

• 2+ years of agentic-AI work with a research-oriented background
• 8+ years of software engineering with distributed-systems depth and/or platform ownership
• Platform-layer experience that increased output across multiple engineering teams
• Early-stage startup experience spanning pre-seed to Series B
• On-site availability in NYC on startup hours

Tools and technologies

• Python (primary)
• Agent frameworks

• Workflow or transactional engines
• Data infrastructure
• Experience valued with fluent AI-coding-agent use such as Claude and Cursor

Nice to have

• Deep agentic-AI experience with architectural ownership
• Research-oriented ML or NLP background applied to production systems
• Prior Staff or Principal IC experience at a high-growth startup
• Domain background in finance, ERP, audit, or compliance

Role details

• Location: New York City, NY (on-site)
• Work policy: On-site, 6 days/week (startup hours)
• Compensation: $200,000–$250,000 per year + 0.1%–0.35% equity
