AI Engineer

Expression is looking for an experienced AI Engineer to help design and deliver generative AI solutions that are built for customer applications. This hybrid role in the DMV supports end-to-end development, from initial problem definition through deployment and ongoing model optimization.

Role overview

You will design, build, and deploy generative AI systems aligned to customer missions. The work includes developing complete AI solutions that cover data preparation, model development, performance evaluation, and release-ready deployment. Expression also expects continuous iteration to improve model and system performance over time.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy generative AI systems tailored to meet customer missions.
• Develop end-to-end AI solutions, including problem definition, data preparation, model development, performance evaluation, and deployment.
• Continuously optimize model and system performance through iterative improvements.
• Collaborate with Program Managers, Subject Matter Experts, Architects, Product Designers, and Data Scientists to translate customer needs into scalable, mission-ready AI solutions.
• Conduct research and create prototypes to explore emerging AI technologies and innovative applications.
• Demonstrate excellence in data science and AI engineering by mentoring juniors and fostering innovation.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience building and deploying AI/ML models.
• 1+ year of experience developing products or functional prototypes using LLMs and RAG technologies.
• Expertise in generative AI frameworks such as GAN, GPT, and LangChain.
• Advanced knowledge of prompt engineering techniques for generative models.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or an equivalent language.
• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create design documents, technical reports, and presentations for varied audiences.

Preferred experience

• Experience in short-release cycles and across the full software lifecycle.
• Experience with Agile development methodology (Scrum).

Compensation: USD 130,000 - 160,000 per year.
