AI Engineer / OpenAI

This contract role focuses on building production-grade Generative AI solutions within a collaborative enterprise environment. The work spans LLM development, Python API delivery, cloud and data platform integration, and MLOps for deployment and optimization, using Azure OpenAI and modern LLM frameworks.

Role Overview

As an AI Engineer, you will contribute hands on engineering across the full lifecycle of GenAI capabilities, including implementation details for LLM-powered applications and integration with enterprise data and infrastructure. The position is based in Oak Brook, IL and is onsite.

Responsibilities

• 40% Generative AI and LLM development
• 25% Python API development
• 20% Cloud and data platform integration
• 15% MLOps, deployment, and optimization
• 75% hands on engineering
• 25% team collaboration

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering or AI/ML experience
• 2+ years building Generative AI applications
• Strong Python development experience
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks
• Knowledge of Azure OpenAI or enterprise LLM platforms
• Experience building RAG solutions and vector search implementations
• Experience with FastAPI or API development
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline
