Job Description
IFS is hiring a Software Engineer focused on AI and machine learning to help design, build, and optimize backend systems that support intelligent agent workflows. This onsite role in Palo Alto pairs Python backend engineering with applied AI/ML capabilities such as LLM workflows, RAG, and vector database technologies for enterprise-ready solutions.
Role overview
You will develop Python-based services and integrations that enable AI agent functionality, while implementing and tuning LLM-driven workflows for reliability and performance in production environments. The work also includes building reusable backend components, improving system reliability practices, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain Python services, integrations, and data pipelines that support AI agent functionality.
- Develop reusable libraries, APIs, and frameworks that speed up delivery of AI-driven product capabilities.
- Maintain code quality, maintainability, and scalability through testing, CI/CD, and performance monitoring.
- Implement and optimize workflows that use LLMs, embeddings, RAG systems, and vector databases.
- Integrate AI/ML libraries and external APIs such as OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, Pinecone, and Weaviate.
- Experiment with prompt engineering and fine-tuning to improve deployed agent reliability and performance.
- Partner with product and core engineering teams to turn requirements into technical implementations.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and maintain internal technical documentation.
- Support deployment of agents into enterprise environments with an emphasis on stability, accuracy, and scale.
Requirements
- 2–5 years of professional experience as a Python Engineer / Backend Engineer (AI/ML experience is a strong plus).
- Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript for integrations.
- Hands-on knowledge of AI/ML tools and frameworks including OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, RAG, and vector databases.
- Understanding of system integration patterns and comfort working with RESTful APIs, JSON, and data pipelines.
- Enterprise systems experience (CRM, ERP, Helpdesk, Developer platforms, HR/Finance systems) is a plus.
- Strong debugging, testing, and optimization skills.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented code.

- Salary range: $110,000 to $120,000 per year plus bonus potential
