Applied AI Engineer
Job Description
The Central AI team at Millennium Management is hiring an Applied AI Engineer to build and deploy agentic automation, prediction and decision-support models, and document and entity intelligence systems, working closely with business stakeholders from discovery through iteration.
Role Overview
This position sits within Central AI, part of Millennium’s Information Technology organization. The team’s mandate is to apply AI across functions that run the firm, from business development and execution services to risk management, finance, operations and middle office, legal, compliance, and recruiting.
In this role, you will embed directly with business teams to scope problems end-to-end and take ownership of architecture, deployment, evaluation, and ongoing iteration. You will then transform proven solutions into reusable capabilities that can be leveraged across the broader organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Own agentic process automation by reverse-engineering manual and undocumented workflows and building agents that execute them reliably, including tool integrations, orchestration, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, state management, and auditability.
- Build prediction and decision-support models including forecasting, anomaly detection, ranking, matching, and classification using years of accumulated firm data, with appropriate validation and monitoring.
- Develop document intelligence pipelines for extraction, classification, and review across contracts, filings, emails, and transcripts.
- Develop entity intelligence and self-improving systems, including knowledge graphs, entity resolution, enrichment pipelines, and evaluation and feedback loops to improve deployed systems over time.
- Embed with business teams end-to-end, owning the journey from initial conversation to delivery and iteration.
- Convert solutions into reusable capabilities so what you deliver can scale across the firm.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years shipping production software, ML, or AI systems (with flexibility for exceptional builders, where shipped work matters more than time served).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong Python and engineering fundamentals, with the ability to turn prototypes into productized solutions.
- Substantial hands-on LLM and agentic experience, including tool use, orchestration, structured outputs, retrieval, evaluation workflows, and calibrated judgment about what agents can reliably perform.
- Supervised ML depth across training, validation, and feature engineering, along with awareness of pitfalls such as leakage, overfitting, and drift.
- Ability to operate with messy, heterogeneous data and new domains, becoming functionally fluent quickly and building credibility with subject-matter experts.
- Autonomy to embed with trading or finance teams, understand their workflow, and build without waiting for a detailed spec.
Technology Stack
- Python
Team Context and Approach
When a business team has a problem AI can address, Central AI determines the appropriate approach and delivers a solution. You will own work from the initial conversation through architecture, deployment, evaluation, and iteration. Finance experience is not required for this seat; the role emphasizes rapid agent deployment and analysis focused on edge cases rather than primarily on cherry-picked projects.
Location
New York, NY (onsite)
