Business Intelligence - Principal Data Analyst
Job Description
StorageMart | MMS is hiring a Principal Data Analyst to strengthen business intelligence with end-to-end research, reporting, and data storytelling. This hybrid role is based in Columbia, MO, with a dynamic team focused on growth and innovation, professional development in an evolving industry, and the opportunity to help drive meaningful decisions at a growing company.
Responsibilities
- Lead data-driven decision making using quantitative analysis expertise.
- Investigate established business challenges and develop new directions for inquiry, applying natural curiosity to untangle complex problems.
- Own end-to-end ad-hoc data requests for internal teams, including marketing, acquisitions, sales, and senior leadership.
- Explain complex analytic concepts to non-technical audiences by telling a clear data story rather than reciting statistics.
- For recurring needs, create user-friendly Tableau self-service reporting so users outside Business Intelligence can explore data independently.
- Partner with IT and Data Engineering to guide new data pipelines and support the Data Mart architecture. Provide input to ETL functions without personally performing ETL work.
- Share findings and recommendations in small group settings and in broader weekly company-wide meetings.
- Manage experiments such as A/B tests, including test planning, coordinating communications, analyzing results, and presenting recommendations to senior leaders.
- Evaluate analytics tools, technologies, and methodologies, including AI-assisted analytics, to improve analytical efficiency and measurement accuracy.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a business intelligence, operations research, or statistical analytics role.
- 5+ years of demonstrated fluency in SQL query writing (non-negotiable).
- 5+ years of experience with Tableau or a similar BI analytics platform.
- Strong data storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate findings in plain language to senior leadership.
- Ability to create impactful PowerPoint presentations with a clear call to action.
- Some experience constructing machine learning models and applying advanced data science techniques.
- Python or R (or other quantitative programming) skills are a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, project management, and communication skills.
- A Bachelor’s degree in data science, operations research, statistics, business analytics, or a related quantitative field is preferred. Other quantitative degrees are acceptable when paired with demonstrated, hands-on professional or personal analytic project experience.
- Combination of education and experience may be substituted for the stated degree/experience requirements.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in self-storage, hotel, airline, real estate, or similar industries is a plus but not required.

Location, Schedule, and Work Environment
- Columbia, MO (hybrid) with in-office Monday–Friday, 8:00a–5:00p strongly preferred.
- Remote may be considered for the right candidate.
- Occasional travel to the Columbia, MO home office or company events may be required.
- When working remotely, the employee is responsible for maintaining a productive home office environment.
- Noise level is usually quiet.
Compensation
USD 120,000–150,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
Physical Requirements
- May be required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Repetitive motion, including substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures, extensive reading, and viewing a computer terminal.
