Job Description
Rutgers University, through the Department of Psychiatry at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is hiring a Data Analyst to support investigator-led research. This hybrid role in New Brunswick, NJ focuses on data management and statistical analysis across studies related to alcohol use, drug use, and health outcomes, including clinical trial, medical record, and other substance use or health datasets.
Working closely with project investigators and a team that includes a PhD-level biostatistician, you will help ensure data are valid, analyses are well-documented, and study findings are communicated through tables, figures, charts, and manuscript-ready materials.
What you’ll do
- Prepare datasets and provide supporting documentation to enable statistical analysis.
- Design tests and processes to assess data validity and the integrity of analysis results, using appropriate data management and methodological techniques for the data structure and research questions.
- Carry out modeling and statistical analyses in collaboration with the project principal investigator and the project’s biostatistician, including descriptive and multivariable statistical analyses.
- Perform analyses using clinical, medical record, and observational data drawn from multiple grant-funded studies covering alcohol/drug use and health outcomes.
- Collaborate with staff and faculty to evaluate and interpret findings, and produce data summaries in tables, figures, and charts.
- Write code in R, SAS, or similar tools for data preparation, management, analytic file creation, statistical analysis, and generation of graphs and tables for manuscript reporting.
- Attend regular investigator meetings to review progress and support study presentations, including drafting methods and results sections for peer-review manuscripts as a co-author with investigator involvement.
Required qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
- Ability to program, manage data, and conduct statistical analyses.
- Demonstrated data management skills, including experience preparing data for analysis.
- Strong foundation in statistical theory and application, along with willingness to learn and apply new methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing/editing and technical writing to document database structure and content.
- Highly motivated, organized, autonomous working style with strong multi-tasking and recordkeeping.
- Experience working with a team and ability to thrive in a team environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity with REDCap or Qualtrics.
- Experience with survey data, medical record data, clinical trial outcome data, and/or administrative claims data.
- Skills and knowledge in machine learning and natural language processing preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to work with the processes and technologies associated with large datasets.

Hybrid work arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, the position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Education and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the area of design and analysis of data in academia, government, or industrial setting. Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
