Job Description

UCLA Health is hiring a Data Analyst to strengthen clinical research through data integration, analytics, and business intelligence solutions. Working under the Director and Analytics Manager of the Clinical Research Information Systems (CRIS) team, you will support research operations by building reliable reporting, responding to data needs, and delivering accurate, actionable information from multiple clinical and research systems.

Role context

In this onsite position in Los Angeles, CA, the Data Systems Analyst supports clinical research workflows by transforming complex data into meaningful insights. The focus is on data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence, helping faculty and staff make informed decisions that align with UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support clinical research workflows with emphasis on data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence, turning complex datasets into insights that support research operations and decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards.
  • Fulfill ad hoc data requests as needed.
  • Ensure timely delivery of accurate, actionable data to support UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) faculty and staff.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in modeling, aggregating, and delivering data from multiple sources, including the Cancer Registry, Clinical Research Management System (CRMS), and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field), supplemented with at least 7 years of related work and/or project experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, including ETL process design and data modeling.
  • Previous experience with BI tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work in a complex, matrix team and a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to communicate up, down, and across organizational levels.
  • Ability to organize and manage detailed information, with strong analytical and problem-resolution skills; capacity to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule work, and meet deadlines.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience with OMOP modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of Tableau dashboards.
  • Previous experience working in clinical research.
  • Previous experience extracting data out of OnCore.
  • EPIC Clarity certifications and/or experience extracting data from EPIC; previous experience extracting data from Registry Systems (CNext).
  • Exposure to LLM-enabled or AI-driven data use cases.

Salary

$9,075 - $20,125 per month (USD).
