Data Analyst

St. Joseph County Department of Health is hiring a Data Analyst to build and maintain data collection and reporting tools, support program evaluation and grants, and analyze public health and community trends.

Responsibilities

• Analyze public health datasets from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) and other related organizations
• Analyze local community engagement data from health databases and internal sources including services provided, events, surveys, and databases such as REDCap
• Partner with units to assess data needs, goals, and requirements
• Create and maintain data-gathering tools aligned to unit criteria, supporting teams to deliver the insights they need
• Collect feedback from units to improve tools and reporting based on user experience, workflow changes, and goal changes
• Support leadership with interpreting, organizing, and reporting data shared with internal and external entities
• Research, profile, clean, and provide datasets to support regular grant writing and program assessments, including:
  • fetal infant deaths reviews
  • child fatality reviews
  • overdose and suicide deaths reviews
  • other program assessments and developments
• Create GIS maps based on unit needs
• Monitor immunization data from the IDOH database and the Indiana immunization registry for all department clinics to evaluate progress toward goals and objectives
• Deliver internal training for Community Health Workers (CHWs) on data collection and data reporting for community engagement conversations
• Create reports for internal and external audiences and support collating the department’s annual report for submission to the St. Joseph County Commissioners, St. Joseph County Board of Health, and the IDOH
• Prepare and conduct community presentations based on data analysis as requested by the Health Officer

Requirements

• Possess or be able to obtain and maintain required certifications and training
• Thorough knowledge of data science and analysis concepts, practices, and procedures, with strong analytical skills
• Ability to research and use information from various databases, applications, and journals, including federal and state health databases and websites and health journals
• Proficiency using common databases, business informatics, and other applicable software
• Practical knowledge of GIS and mapping applications to capture and utilize data and create effective maps and graphics
• Proficiency using the REDCap database software tool

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in related fields such as epidemiology, informatics, computer science, math, statistics, or public health is required
• Will consider at least 5 years of work experience in a data environment, especially healthcare, as an alternative to a bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree in a related field and prior work experience in public health are preferred

• $63,945 per year
