Data Analyst II

Based in Sacramento with a hybrid work arrangement, the Data Analyst II role at SACOG centers on GIS data management, spatial analysis, and data-driven planning support. You will create GIS-based maps and visualizations, manage datasets, and develop scalable data workflows to inform transportation, land use, housing, and regional planning across the six-county region. The position offers a monthly salary range of USD 7,482 to 9,095 and welcomes candidates with at least one year of GIS experience and a Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Maintain GIS datasets including regional base layers and related spatial data systems
• Acquire, clean, and integrate spatial and tabular data from local jurisdictions and partners
• Perform spatial analyses to inform transportation, land use, housing, and regional planning
• Support recurring data updates and workflows used for monitoring and reporting
• Contribute to developing data workflows and automate workflows where appropriate
• Support mapping tools, dashboards, and web-based GIS apps (web maps, StoryMaps, etc.)
• Assist with data processing, integration, and organization across datasets and systems
• Prepare spatial data for modeling and analytical projects
• Conduct QA/QC on datasets, processing workflows, and outputs, including documenting issues
• Develop and maintain clear, reproducible datasets, workflows, and scripts for staff handoff
• Aid maintenance of enterprise GIS systems, including web maps and map services
• Contribute to dashboards, monitoring tools, and recurring reporting used for decision-making
• Coordinate data inputs across systems to ensure consistent outputs
• Prepare maps and data products for internal staff, member agencies, and external stakeholders
• Support GIS architecture and supporting systems to enable reliable analysis and data delivery
• Coordinate with SACOG staff and partner agencies on GIS-related efforts
• Stay current with evolving GIS tools, data practices, and analytical approaches

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in GIS, geography, urban planning, data science, computer science, statistics, or related field
• At least 1 year of progressively responsible experience in GIS, spatial analysis, data analysis, or a closely related field
• Experience with ArcGIS, scripting (Python), visualization, dashboards, SQL databases, and data workflow automation

SACOG serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for six counties in the Sacramento region. Formed as a Joint Powers Authority, SACOG is governed by a 31-member board representing the counties and cities, with Caltrans as an ex-officio member. Hybrid Position

Exam

Applicants will complete an online soft skills assessment and may be asked to participate in a practical exercise during interviews, such as a technical presentation or review of prior work.

Supplemental Information
