Job Description

Join Microsoft’s People Analytics team to create AI-powered people-data tools that help the HR community answer questions through self-serve experiences. In this role, you will focus on building and improving the tools themselves, not producing traditional analytics reports. You’ll work onsite in Redmond, WA and partner closely with analysts to strengthen adoption and performance.

Compensation: USD 86,100 - 187,400 per year. For the Data Analytics IC3 role, the typical base pay range across the U.S. is USD $86,100 - $169,800 per year. Location-specific base pay applies for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, where the range is USD $113,300 - $187,400 per year. What you’ll do

  • Build and extend the people-analytics MCP server: add new datasets, improve answer quality, and reduce response times.
  • Diagnose and fix bugs across AI tools, including rigorous testing prior to release.
  • Partner with the People Analytics team to build and test GitHub Copilot skills that encode analytical methods.
  • Prototype new solutions as opportunities emerge, collaborating with senior teammates while adapting quickly as priorities shift in a fast-moving, still-forming space.
  • Stay embedded with analysts to identify where tools fall short, then convert that feedback into improvements that people actually use.
  • Help the team grow by sharing learnings, teaching new AI tools and techniques, and contributing to a skills community.
  • Build responsibly with sensitive people data by incorporating confidentiality, access, and guardrails, and handling governed data with strict adherence to privacy requirements and appropriate legal reviews.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or a related field OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or a related field, and
  • 2+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis, or equivalent experience.

Helpful experience

  • Master’s degree and 3+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business (as applicable).
