Job Description

Kiewit Corporation is hiring an entry-level Data Engineer to join its Data Platform team in Omaha, Nebraska. This onsite role supports the engineering of pipelines and infrastructure that deliver analytics-ready tables, working closely with experienced team members as you build, test, and maintain production data flows.

You will contribute to ingestion and transformation workflows using SQL and Python, while learning Kiewit’s data stack, including cloud lake house, orchestration, and transformation tooling. The position is geared toward a recent graduate or early-career professional with strong fundamentals in SQL, Python scripting, and data modeling.

What you’ll do

  • Write and maintain SQL transformations and Python scripts that support data ingestion and transformation workflows
  • Assist with building and testing ETL/ELT pipelines under guidance from senior engineers
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and testing practices to help keep data trustworthy
  • Collaborate with analysts, data architects, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and troubleshoot issues
  • Learn and apply the team’s data stack, including cloud lake house, orchestration, and transformation tooling
  • Surface blockers, ask questions, and propose solutions as part of a collaborative team environment

Minimum qualifications

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience (internships, academic or personal projects, or early-career work in data, analytics, or software)
  • Demonstrable internship or project coursework experience with data, analytics, and business stakeholders
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Science & Engineering, Data Science, or a similar field
  • SQL proficiency including basic joins, aggregations, and database normalization concepts
  • Python (or similar), comfortable writing scripts, using libraries such as pandas, and understanding functions and OOP basics
  • Git/GitHub experience from a class project or personal repository, with conceptual understanding of branches and pull requests
  • Conceptual understanding of data pipelines, including explaining ETL/ELT and batch vs. streaming at a high level
  • Comfort using the command line and navigating basic cloud/dev environments
  • Strong written communication for documentation and asynchronous collaboration

Preferred qualifications

  • Exposure to a cloud platform such as Azure or GCP
  • Familiarity with modern data tooling such as Databricks, dbt, and Snowflake
  • Experience with data quality or testing frameworks
  • Coursework or project experience involving data warehousing or dimensional modeling

Location and work arrangement

This position is based onsite at Kiewit’s office at 12312 Port Grace Blvd, La Vista, NE 68128. This is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.
