Job Description

The Mayo Clinic is seeking a Data Engineer to design and optimize data pipelines and data architecture at an onsite location in Rochester, MN. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to analyze data, translate business requirements into information needs, and ensure timely data delivery. Salary range: USD 102,300 - 143,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet both functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong SQL proficiency, including the ability to identify subsets across multiple joins or unions, and to write and troubleshoot SQL queries for data mining.
  • Conduct complex data analysis and investigation for customer requests, explain results, and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Apply a solid understanding of data modeling concepts.
  • Act as a proactive problem solver with the ability to think critically to identify improvement opportunities, including error detection, error correction, and root cause analysis.
  • Understand ETL processes to support data verification and testing.
  • Build processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency management, and workload management.
  • Show a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Analyze business objectives and develop data solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to participate effectively in multiple concurrent projects.
  • Improve and customize current data solutions to satisfy functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Research new and existing data sources to contribute to development, improve data management processes, and recommend data quality initiatives.
  • Perform periodic data quality reviews for internal and external data.
  • Ensure timely resolution of data queries and data issues.
  • Identify new data collection opportunities by researching potential sources of information.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics experts to enhance the functionality of data systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2 years of experience.
  • Proven ability to analyze and profile data to address business problems through advanced data modeling, source system databases, or data mining techniques.
  • May provide consultative services to departments, divisions, and committees.
  • Demonstrated use of multiple problem-solving methodologies, planning techniques, continuous improvement methods, and analytical tools and methodologies (for example, data analysis, data profiling, modeling).
  • Ability to manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities and stay current on healthcare trends and enterprise changes.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Robust analytical skills and the ability to identify and recommend solutions, with advanced computer application skills and a commitment to customer service.
  • Experience with data analysis, quality, and profiling, including data exploration tools such as Rapid SQL, AQT, Information Analyzer, and Informatics.
