Job Description

Emergent Software is hiring a Data Engineer for a hybrid role in Iowa City, IA. This position builds the reliable data foundation that supports reporting, analytics, and business decision-making, with a focus on scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data quality, and dependable datasets.

You will design and maintain data infrastructure that helps technical and business teams work from consistent, accurate information. The scope includes automating manual work to improve delivery efficiency, monitoring pipeline performance, and troubleshooting issues across data quality, schemas, and workflows. With tooling across orchestration, transformation, and databases, you will have opportunities to apply modern data engineering practices and keep improving how data moves through the organization.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that support enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Integrate data from ERP, manufacturing, and other business systems into centralized data platforms.
  • Build scalable data workflows across extraction, transformation, and loading processes.
  • Develop and maintain data models, testing frameworks, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor pipeline performance and troubleshoot problems related to data quality, schema, and workflow behavior.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Automate manual processes and improve overall data delivery efficiency.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and reliability across systems.
  • Stay current with emerging data engineering technologies and best practices.

What you bring

  • Strong experience building and supporting production data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Tools you may work with

SQL, Python, Prefect, Apache Airflow, dbt, MongoDB, Redis, Microsoft SQL Server, Docker

Nice to have

  • Experience in manufacturing, ERP, or operational data environments.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Prefect or Apache Airflow.
  • Experience with CDC or incremental data processing strategies.
  • Familiarity with dbt, MongoDB, Redis, Microsoft SQL Server, and Docker.
  • Knowledge of modern data architecture and cloud analytics platforms.
