Job Description

South Texas Radiology Group, P.A. is hiring a Data Engineer in San Antonio, TX (onsite). In this role, you will help turn data into dependable, accessible information for business teams and analysts by building and maintaining data pipelines to a centralized data warehouse. You will also collaborate closely with leadership and internal teams to support physician productivity, scheduling, enterprise reporting, and analytics.

What you’ll do

  • Follow STRG Policies and Procedures at all times, including strict confidentiality of patient protected health information under HIPAA Privacy, Security, HITECH, and Transactions and Code Sets regulations.
  • Gather input for moderately complex processes, analyze data and trends, and identify root causes.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure for a centralized data store (data warehouse), selecting appropriate platform components and importing data from various agency EHRs and web-based sources using ELT/ETL best practices.
  • Partner with internal managers and external partners to set up data pipelines supporting reporting and other business functions, with a focus on data integrity across integrated systems.
  • Support enterprise reporting by enabling data dictionary creation and warehouse-backed report development.
  • Maintain data normalization strategies for new incoming data, and develop a semantic layer for report KPIs and business metrics.
  • Support data mining and analytical capabilities for decision-making and executive strategy, including a data management strategy covering data acquisition and archive recovery.
  • Provide ongoing support for business teams working with the data warehouse and/or data sources.
  • Maintain CI/CD best practices for accurate, accessible business data, using Agile project management principles and providing transparency into development processes.
  • Review and audit reports, data sources, and data streams for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage and deploy BI tools for use across company teams.
  • Support departmental initiatives as requested, assist with alerting and education on EHR changes, and help with system administrative setup as needed.
  • Support physician reporting needs through collaboration with the President and, as needed, scheduling and reporting needs through the Vice President.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What you bring

  • 4+ years of experience in end-to-end analysis and/or operations experience, including requirement gathering and documentation, operational planning and forecasting, data analytics, or current/future state analysis in support of business planning initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask multiple priorities.
  • Advanced Excel knowledge (required).
  • Knowledge of analytical and BI tools including MS Excel, Tableau, and PowerBI.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and shell/bash, plus expertise in database technologies, ELT/ETL, REST APIs, data warehousing, and workflow management tools.
  • Experience querying and maintaining relational databases (including SQL Server and Postgres) and version controlling with GitHub.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies and cloud development platforms such as GCP, including cloud-native applications.
  • Cursory understanding of healthcare terminology, including CPT, RVU, and charge terminology.
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle systems and mapping logic within billing tables.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration.

Work schedule

  • Maintaining and meeting minimum attendance requirements is essential, including working all full-time regular hours and scheduled or emergency overtime.
  • Full-time regular hours are Monday through Friday, with after-hours or weekends as required.
  • This role does not include “light duty” and does not allow unpredictable or unrestricted absences.
