National Grid is hiring a Lead Data Scientist to join the Data, Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics team supporting New England Electric. This hybrid role in Massachusetts focuses on applying advanced analytics and machine learning while also contributing to data platform and data product development.
There are two openings for this position: one role with a stronger emphasis on data science and another with a stronger emphasis on data engineering. In both cases, the work centers on building and improving data, BI, and advanced analytics tools.
Role summary
As a lead contributor, you will use sophisticated analytics and modeling techniques to address business needs, and you will help deliver data products and platform capabilities within the Electric Data Management (EDM) technology environment. The work spans predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting and simulations, ETL automation, orchestration, and ongoing platform management.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations to solve business problems
- Lead analytics projects from conception through completion, partnering with multiple stakeholder groups to understand and address analytic needs
- Support research, implementation, and delivery of data products for the New England Electric Business, including data requests and dashboards
- Develop, manage, and maintain the EDM technology platform, including cloud computing assets, database architecture, stored procedures, orchestration jobs, and reporting
- Compile and prepare small and large datasets to meet internal business requirements within the overall EDM platform
- Design and implement ETL processes to collect, transform, and store data from multiple sources such as databases, APIs, FTPs, and SharePoint, using technologies including Azure, SQL, and Python
- Build tools that automate manual processes and optimize data and solution delivery for end users
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline
- 7+ years of Data Science or related experience
- Expertise in Machine Learning
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience with cloud computing and database management
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Master’s degree and/or PhD
- GIS programming experience
- Energy industry experience and regulated industry experience
- Advanced data engineering experience
- Expertise with Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL
- Experience working in the Azure environment

Location: Massachusetts (hybrid)
Salary: USD 153,000 - 180,000 per year
