Data Engineer, Automation & Controls
Job Description
Ford Motor Company seeks a Data Engineer, Automation & Controls in Marshall, MI, onsite, to lead data pipeline work, automation tasks, and integration across manufacturing and electrification initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the Ford Production System key unifying processes
- Apply standard manufacturing operating systems and principles consistently
- Maintain Safety Operating System practices to pursue zero injuries
- Adhere to Quality Operating System practices to achieve zero defects
- Design and develop data pipelines
- Create workflows to automate repetitive data tasks
- Connect enterprise applications, SaaS platforms, and manufacturing or operational systems using APIs, event-driven messaging, and orchestration workflows
- Perform data profiling, mapping, and modeling to ensure accuracy, consistency, and governance adherence
- Identify and implement controls best practices, and drive enablers, training, and change control
- Coordinate with IT on IT and Controls interface issues
- Handle drawing approvals and updates for hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Monitor the use of structured software specifications and organize OEM training when required
- Resolve issues during machine builds, installation, and steady state production
- Troubleshoot production downtime related to PLC programs and HMI screens
- Set up and maintain industrial barcode scanners and printers
- Validate equipment capability and robustness with run-off testing at suppliers and plants, including safety considerations
- Ensure production systems meet objectives through process design and FMEAs
- Collaborate with plant teams and Manufacturing Engineering for timely installation and validation
- Capture lessons learned and apply them to new programs and updates to standards
- Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation issues
- Update backups for automation programs
- Program new installations of vision, fastening, dispense, leak test, electrical test, gantry, and conveyor systems
- Reprogram automation for engineering changes and improvements
- Demonstrate flexibility to work across day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 4+ years of data engineering experience
- 2+ years of data visualization experience (reports and dashboards)
- 2+ years using Python, SQL, C++, Java, or similar platform for automation and data processing
