Job Description
Data Engineer II on Amazon's Intelligence & Industrialization team designs scalable AWS-based data platforms to support transportation procurement and international customs. The role covers end-to-end ETL, data warehousing, and self-service analytics, collaborating with BI Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to enable data-driven decisions at scale. This position is based onsite in Bellevue, WA with a salary range of USD 132,100 to 178,800 per year.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own scalable data infrastructure on AWS (Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR) that delivers reliable access to large-scale transportation and customs datasets for cross-functional stakeholders
- Architect and implement end-to-end ETL pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources, ensuring timely delivery of critical business metrics with a focus on automation, efficiency, and fault tolerance
- Drive database performance optimization through workload management, query tuning, and monitoring strategies that maintain high availability and fast response times for analytical workloads
- Enable data-driven decision-making by partnering with BI Engineers and Data Scientists to deliver self-service analytics, data visualization, and machine learning solutions that reduce time-to-insight
- Establish and maintain data quality frameworks, data catalogs, and governance processes that protect data integrity and empower business users to discover and trust the data they rely on
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields
- 3+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience as a data engineer or related specialty with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Experience architecting or operating solutions built on any cloud service provider such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or OCI

A Day in the Life
Mornings involve checking pipeline health and addressing data delivery issues. Deep focus is spent building new ETL pipelines, refining Redshift queries, and designing data models. Afternoons are reserved for collaborating with BI Engineers on visualization requirements, supporting Data Scientists with feature engineering, and translating transportation procurement questions into concrete technical solutions. The role balances hands-on Python and SQL coding with design reviews and strategic planning.
