Data Engineer II, Strategic Ingestion Product

The Travelers Companies, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer II to join the Strategic Ingestion Product team in Hartford, CT, onsite. This role centers on building and deploying data pipelines to support analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives, and broad enterprise data access. The position offers a salary range of USD 126,500 to 208,700 per year.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operationalize sophisticated data solutions, troubleshoot issues, apply transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality improvements.
• Architect and design advanced data solutions.
• Analyze complex data sources to assess value and applicability, and recommend data for analytics workflows.
• Integrate core data management practices, including governance, security, and quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and analytic environments.
• Conduct data and system analysis to identify, assess, and resolve defects and incidents.
• Validate data movement, transformation logic, and data components through testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Eight years of related experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
• Experience with ETL tools and frameworks such as Ab Initio, AWS Glue, and Databricks, including design, development, and optimization of complex data workflows.
• Proven ability to build, manage, and scale data pipelines to support large-scale data processing and analytics across enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake-based data warehouses, including data ingestion, transformation, and performance optimization.
• Proficiency with AWS cloud infrastructure and related data engineering and pipeline orchestration services.
• Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and business partners.
• Experience leading team members and fostering a safe environment for engineers to learn and grow, with a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying opportunities and driving team efforts.
