Data Engineer (Senior / Mid-Level) – ETL / Cloud / AWS – Top Secret Clearance

Visual Soft, Inc is seeking a Data Engineer to join onsite in Huntsville, Alabama. The role spans ETL development, cloud-based data orchestration, and data migration, with mid-level to senior responsibilities and an active Top Secret clearance required. The position emphasizes hands-on engineering, collaboration within Agile teams, and the maintenance of robust data pipelines across both on-premises environments and AWS.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and sustain ETL workflows to extract, transform, and load large-scale structured and unstructured data.
• Develop data migration solutions between legacy and modern systems using SQL, Java, and cloud-native tools.
• Implement data integration frameworks leveraging AWS services such as Glue, Lambda, S3, RDS, Redshift, and Kinesis.
• Create automation scripts with Python, Shell, or Bash for deployment, data validation, and ongoing maintenance tasks.
• Maintain and enhance data pipelines for real-time and batch processing.
• Support data quality, metadata management, and governance activities.
• Contribute to Agile/Scrum sprints, including design input, code reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues across on-premises and AWS environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience for a mid-level role or 8+ years for a senior role in data engineering or database development.
• Hands-on experience with ETL tools such as Informatica, Talend, Pentaho, AWS Glue, or custom Java ETL frameworks.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one major RDBMS (Oracle or PostgreSQL).
• Experience with data migration projects and data quality validation.
• Proficiency in Java or Python for data processing and automation tasks.
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS (RDS, S3, Lambda, Redshift, Glue).
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
• Experience operating in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
