Data Scientist
Job Description
Battelle is seeking a full-time Data Scientist to support client missions tied to CBRNE challenges in Chantilly, VA. In this hybrid role, you will apply machine learning, data engineering, and multi-source data analysis within a fast-paced agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement machine learning, statistical, and data engineering methods to advance client mission objectives across science and technology domains
- Use expertise with data collection and analysis tools to improve existing approaches and develop new methods for mission-critical data science problems
- Independently propose, develop, and execute creative solutions, including identifying new data sources and data exploitation techniques
- Collect, organize, and analyze technical information from multiple sources to support mission execution and quick-turn tasks in time-sensitive environments
- Deliver thorough work products that require minimal revision or editing
- Manage expectations, communicate progress, and meet deadlines in an agile setting
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including co-located and geographically distributed team members, and lead tasks on schedule and within budget
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years; or PhD in a relevant field with 3+ years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience using tools to collect, assemble, interpret, translate, and analyze multi-source data, including science and technology information, network data, open-source data, and databases, and synthesizing findings into actionable intelligence
- Experience applying machine learning and statistics and/or data mining techniques to extract insights from complex datasets
- Experience automating data pipelining processes, data transformation, databases, and/or repositories
- Experience assessing and reporting on technologies and scientific topics, including technology readiness levels (TRL) and critical technology elements (CTE)
- Experience working with diverse media and advanced science and technology data
- Experience in national security, defense, and/or intelligence community programs
- Enthusiasm for learning new technical subject areas and curiosity about science and technology missions
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
Location and Work Model
Chantilly, VA (hybrid)
- Enhanced work flexibility with a hybrid arrangement of 60% in-office and 40% remote
- Monday and Tuesday are common in-office days
Compensation
- Salary range: $135,000 to $180,000 per year
- Salary is determined by factors including education, relevant experience, skills, and certifications
- Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions
