Data Scientist

The Data Science & Informatics Specialist 2 will independently lead complex statewide research efforts that support state policymaking and funding decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement advanced statistical models for performance management, program evaluation, and survey design.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and direct economic and statistical research initiatives.
• Convert complex analyses into strategic findings and actionable recommendations for executive management and board members.
• Create statistical business procedures while ensuring agency databases and practices align with state and federal regulations.
• Serve as the primary researcher on multidisciplinary projects, overseeing work from execution through final presentation.
• Produce data visualizations and deliver results to executive leadership, board members, and stakeholders.
• Manage and maintain data sharing agreements (DSAs) by assessing research data needs, coordinating with partners, and ensuring confidentiality and security.
• Represent the agency on cross-agency workgroups to advance data integration and streamline DSA processes.
• Act as one of the agency’s Data Scientists by developing advanced statistical models that inform state policymaking.

Requirements

• 8 years of combined related education and/or experience.
• Research experience in the social sciences and/or quantitative research experience using multivariate regression.
• Education in quantitative social science or a related field.
• 2 years professional experience using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, or R.
• 1 year experience using relational databases such as Access, Oracle, or SQL.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in team and project management.
• Experience designing, managing, and working with complex administrative, demographic, and multi-source longitudinal databases.
• Experience applying advanced statistical methods, including linear regression and logistic regression, to analyze complex datasets.
• Proven ability to communicate complex findings with clear, concise summaries and data-focused presentations for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of experience analyzing aggregate employment or training data.
