Job Description

Denver Health is seeking a mission-driven Data Scientist to develop, implement, and evaluate multiple data projects. The role includes data analysis, reporting, and system solutions, along with support for the Epic Cogito suite, in a hybrid work setup based in Denver, Colorado.

Location and Work Arrangement

Denver, CO (hybrid)

This is a hybrid position requiring two days per week on-site at Denver Health, with the remaining three days worked remotely.

Compensation

USD 81,800 - 126,800 per year

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with stakeholders to identify business requirements, expected outcomes, and relevant data sources. Collaborate with information technology teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to locate, evaluate, integrate, and validate new and existing data sources. Document business requirements, data requirements, data sources, and programming logic related to data requests. Conduct literature reviews. (20%)
  • Serve as a lead or supporting team member on projects. Periodically review processes, coding, and requirements to identify opportunities for improvement and automation. (10%)
  • Query databases and design database structures and data models to support acquisition, management, integration, and reporting of data and information using industry standards and guidelines. Compare models using statistical performance metrics. Create and use programs or tools to support data accuracy and integrity. Analyze data using statistical software. (40%)
  • Create graphs, charts, and other visualizations to communicate analysis results. Deliver formal and informal presentations to leadership and end users through oral and written communication. (30%)
  • Under general direction, support, analyze, design, build, configure, implement, and provide workflow documentation for the assigned Epic application or third-party software, aligned with organizational policies, procedures, and business operations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate multiple projects in parallel, including gathering requirements, extracting data, performing statistical analysis, creating reports and visualizations, and developing system solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Health Services Research, Public Health, Mathematics, Science, or a closely related field.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience working with relational databases, summarizing data, and reporting meaningful results to end users. Prior experience with health relational databases is required.

Preferred Qualification

  • Epic Certification or proficiency in the Cogito suite of tools.
  • CABOODLE-EPIC Cogito Data Warehouse - DHHA - Denver Health and Hospital Authority.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Data literacy with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prepare and transform raw data to deliver insights.
  • Ability to adapt in an evolving technical environment by identifying and validating appropriate technological solutions for reporting needs.
  • Strong problem identification, analysis, and resolution skills, using analytical reasoning to define issues, determine root causes, generate options, and implement effective solutions.
  • Communication that supports collaboration across technical and non-technical teams, tailoring content and delivery as needed.
  • High initiative and ownership, including recognizing tasks that need completion, seeking additional work, and supporting others.
  • Business analysis skills, including interviewing business users, analyzing processes and operations, establishing solution objectives, prototyping solutions, and preparing specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Intermediate SQL skills (or equivalent) and a strong understanding of dimensional and relational database concepts, including primary keys, foreign keys, and joins.
  • Ability to research and troubleshoot reporting content functionality to ensure data accuracy and confirm daily processing completion.
  • Proficiency with report writing and data visualization tools, including Excel, Tableau, and/or Microsoft SSRS.
