Data Scientist Fellow — AI/ML

Axle is seeking a Data Scientist Fellow to build advanced computational models that help predict and optimize organoid growth and differentiation protocols. This onsite role in Bethesda, MD connects machine learning development with iterative experimental validation to support organoid standardization and tissue engineering predictive modeling through in silico simulation and feedback.

What you’ll do

• Design and implement machine learning models that predict organoid development outcomes from protocol parameters, environmental conditions, and molecular characterization data.
• Develop in silico models covering organoid growth, maturation, and phenotype characterization, with an emphasis on identifying conditions that improve reproducible organoid generation.
• Set up feedback loops between experimental validation and computational prediction to iteratively refine and better understand protocol standardization.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to plan characterization and validation experiments and with bioinformatics scientists to integrate multi-modal datasets.

Skills and qualifications

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field, with demonstrated AI/ML model development experience.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python, R, or comparable languages, plus experience using TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Experience applying computational methods in biological laboratory settings, including working knowledge of experimental design principles and biological data types.

Compensation and location

• Salary: USD 90,000 - 100,000 per year

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with organoid systems or tissue engineering applications.
• Knowledge of differential equations and systems biology modeling, plus experience using deep learning approaches for biological applications.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and containerization technologies.
