Data Scientist I

Join Mastercard to build market-leading open banking analytics as an individual contributor. This onsite role in Salt Lake City, UT combines applied data science with product impact, covering affordability and credit decisioning as well as identity and income verification use cases. You will develop insights end to end, from data science techniques on large datasets to interactive dashboards, customer trials, and deployment support.

What you’ll work on

• Apply data science techniques appropriate to each problem across the full lifecycle, from development through support for deployment.
• Partner with data engineers and developers to build and deploy interactive dashboards, delivering engaging client insights and a strong user experience.
• Run and support customer trials to expand open banking impact, including data specification, data processing and analysis, plus result generation and presentation.
• Stay proactive in product excellence by investigating and proposing new data sources, encouraging cross-team collaboration, managing projects to agreed schedules, and evaluating new tools and methods.
• Help define and follow team methods that support rapid prototyping, reproducibility, productivity, automation, and appropriate data governance.
• Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders to ensure requirements are understood and met.
• Engage with the wider Mastercard data science community by sharing best practices, knowledge, and insights.

What you bring

• An undergraduate degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a similar field.
• Multi-project, hands-on experience across the end-to-end data science process on large, complex data, from framing to communicating results and supporting solution deployment.
• Real-world experience building and deploying interactive dashboards using Plotly’s Dash.
• Workplace coding experience in Python, including knowledge of the principal Python data science and ML library ecosystem.
• Excellent written and oral communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong engagement demonstrated through examples of collaboration, teamwork, independent execution, and continued professional development.
• Commercial experience using time series and NLP methods, including topic modelling and named entity recognition; supervised and unsupervised techniques knowledge is expected.
• Practical knowledge of solution deployment, including data science pipelines and MLOps frameworks and libraries.
• Experience working in financial services, particularly related to consumer and/or business lending.

Compensation

Salt Lake City, Utah: $72,000 - $115,000 USD per year
