Job Description

Liberty Mutual’s Property & Specialty Product Design & Modeling team is seeking a Data Scientist to develop pricing and underwriting models that support predictive decision-making. The role focuses on building, deploying, and maintaining predictive solutions, translating model insights for stakeholders, and contributing to model testing, calibration, monitoring, and regulatory-related rollouts.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of a pricing program deployment pipeline, coordinating work from modeling through product launch with the Deployments team
  • Use advanced analytics techniques to work with large structured and unstructured data sets, generating insights that inform business decisions
  • Identify and test hypotheses, including ensuring statistical significance, as part of building and developing predictive models for business use
  • Translate quantitative analyses and findings into clear visuals for non-technical audiences
  • Support business decision-making by helping define trade-offs among options and providing a practical view of likely outcomes
  • Customize analytic solutions to meet specific stakeholder needs
  • Collaborate with other data science teams to implement new pricing programs, using Python packages as needed
  • Own smaller components of moderate-to-high complexity projects
  • Support property and specialty pricing programs, including building models and supporting rollouts that require adjustments due to state restrictions
  • Develop supporting documentation and respond to DOI objections related to model rollouts
  • Engage with the broader data science community and participate in cross-functional working groups

Requirements

  • Solid knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and statistical diagnostics of models
  • Advanced knowledge of the predictive toolset and demonstrated ability as an expert resource for tool development
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and communicate complex information clearly and concisely
  • Value-driven approach focused on understanding work context and impact

Location and Work Schedule

The role is remote. In-office expectations may apply depending on candidate location: candidates living within 50 miles of Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Seattle, WA; Columbus, OH; or Plano, TX will follow a hybrid schedule with two in-office days per week.

Compensation

Salary Range: USD 83,000 - 197,000 per year.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range is based on factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for employees in these positions across the national market and provides opportunity for progression as employees grow and develop. Some roles may include a compensation plan that includes commission and/or bonus earnings, subject to the plan terms for the role.
