Data Scientist Supervisor
Job Description
The Data Scientist Supervisor will lead a dedicated team within the DHS Data & Analytics Unit, guiding advanced analytics projects, machine learning initiatives, and the development and deployment of predictive models to inform data-driven decision-making. This role provides technical leadership and mentorship to foster innovation and operational efficiency.
Location and Compensation
Location: Alhambra, CA (hybrid)
Salary: USD 9,853 - 13,278 per monthly
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor data scientists, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
- Oversee the development of machine learning models and analytical solutions aligned with business needs.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure scalable, efficient, and accurate data pipelines.
- Establish and enforce best practices in data science methodologies, model validation, and documentation.
- Drive the creation of predictive, prescriptive, and diagnostic models to address complex business challenges and optimize decisions.
- Produce high-quality, clear reports and dashboards; translate complex findings for technical and non-technical stakeholders; utilize advanced visualization to convey results to leadership; define metrics and KPIs to measure initiative impact.
- Engage with business leaders to define data-driven strategies and deliver actionable insights; translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences; partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to embed data science into operational processes.
- Pursue continuous improvement and research in data science techniques, staying current with industry trends; lead initiatives exploring new methods and tools; enhance data science workflows and methodologies across the organization.
Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Six or more years of experience in data science, with at least two years in a leadership role.
- Extensive hands-on experience in machine learning, AI, and predictive modeling; proven track record of leading and mentoring data science teams.
- Successful clearance through the Live Scan process with the County of Los Angeles.
- Advanced programming skills in Python, R, and SQL for model development and data processing.
- Expertise in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.
- Strong experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) for storytelling and reporting.
- Deep knowledge of data engineering concepts, ETL processes, and model deployment.
- Proven ability to lead data science projects from ideation through implementation.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience mentoring junior data scientists and fostering a data-driven culture.
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies and project management principles.
