Job Description

Entry-level Educational Systems Data Analyst I role at Columbus City Schools analyzes, interprets, and validates data from student information and educational management systems and produces reports to support data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, perform entry-level analysis, interpretation, and validation of data from student information systems and educational management systems, with related duties as required.
  • Extract requested data from multiple databases and consolidate it into required file formats.
  • Review data accuracy and integrity; identify data error patterns and correct issues by researching sources of information.
  • Monitor data entries for timely and accurate completion; identify issues with data gathering, entry, and reporting by staff and system users, such as duplicates and overlapping dates.
  • Learn the specialized methods required by state and federal agencies for submission of educational data.
  • Assist upper level personnel with identifying process improvements to reduce recurring errors; instruct users in new methods.
  • Write queries and simple programs to collect and compile data needed for reports for local, state, and federal agencies, staff, and users.
  • Develop routine and ad hoc reports, tables, and graphs; help staff interpret results; develop custom reports as requested.
  • Review data submitted to external agencies for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • May participate in developing standards, policies, and procedures for data retrieval and reporting.

Requirements

  • Location: Columbus, OH (onsite)
  • Compensation: USD 36 - 37 per hour
  • Bachelor's degree with substantial coursework (21 semester hours or 32 quarter hours) in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field, and one year of experience in data analysis and research.
  • Substitution: Additional years of the specified experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Department Specific Duties & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience using databases and related technologies; functional understanding of data warehouse concepts
  • Write SQL queries and simple programs to assemble data for reports, as required by local, state, and federal agencies, staff and users
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments to gather user requirements and document the design of deliverables (reports, dashboards, alerts, visualizations) and obtain feedback on effectiveness
  • Candidates must be willing to work in person and have reliable transportation
