Job Description
UniFirst seeks a Junior Azure Data Engineer to help build and migrate data pipelines from a legacy warehouse to Azure Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse.
Responsibilities
- Support data-pipeline development and migration from the Legacy Data Warehouse (LDW) to Azure Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse
- Write efficient SQL queries for extraction, transformation, and validation across multiple databases including SQL Server 2022, Azure SQL MI, and Synapse
- Develop and debug Python scripts for automation, file ingestion, and data-quality checks
- Assist with building Fabric dataflows, pipelines, and lakehouse tables aligned with enterprise data-modeling standards
- Collaborate with senior engineers on ETL design, optimization, and performance tuning
- Complete unit testing, participate in peer code reviews, and maintain technical documentation in Confluence and Git
- Monitor data-load processes and help resolve job failures, including Zephyr test case execution and JIRA updates
- Continuously learn emerging Azure technologies (including Databricks, Fabric, and Power BI) and contribute to process-improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
- 1 to 2 years of hands-on experience with SQL (T-SQL preferred) and Python scripting
- Basic understanding of data-warehousing concepts including ETL, staging, and fact/dimension modeling
- Exposure to Azure services such as Data Factory, Synapse, or Fabric components
- Strong curiosity, analytical mindset, and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm to learn enterprise-scale systems and deliver high-quality, production-ready code
