Lead AI Engineer

EPAM Systems, Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer in New York, NY (onsite) to lead production-grade Agentic AI for insurance workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy production-grade Agentic AI solutions that automate complex insurance workflows to reduce turnaround time and improve operational productivity
• Build AI-powered applications using LLMs, RAG, document processing, information extraction, classification, and agent-based architectures at enterprise scale
• Own the end-to-end AI product lifecycle, from ideation and rapid prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and continuous performance improvements
• Create robust AI evaluation frameworks including testing, monitoring, performance measurement, and hallucination detection for production-level reliability
• Partner with brokers, underwriters, and operations teams to identify high-impact AI adoption opportunities and translate business challenges into scalable solutions
• Mentor engineers, reinforce modern AI development best practices, and research emerging technologies to advance platform intelligence

Requirements

• 5 to 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, AI/ML, or related domains, plus a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong proficiency in Python with hands-on experience delivering AI-powered products end to end, from concept through production deployment
• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), information extraction, document understanding, classification models, and agentic AI workflow design
• Solid foundation in cloud platforms, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, observability, and secure data handling in production environments
• Experience with API design, system design, and full-stack application development; working knowledge of TypeScript or Node.js is a complementary skill
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including ability to explain complex AI concepts and trade-offs to non-technical business stakeholders

Salary and Compensation

• Salary range: $145,000 - $180,000 per yearly
• Range reflects base salary only
• Compensation offers may vary based on factors including geographic location, experience, credentials, education, training, role demand, and business/labor market considerations
• Most candidates are hired within the disclosed range
