Medical Analytics Data Engineer
Job Description
Pfizer is seeking a Medical Analytics Data Engineer to help build the data infrastructure that enables teams to develop and support models for care gap identification and HCP prioritization. This role focuses on scalable, standards-adherent analytics data engineering, including building data products and partnering across stakeholders to ensure teams can work effectively with the right datasets.
This position is based in New York, NY (remote) and supports ongoing medical data projects through robust pipelines, well-governed data systems, and practical tooling for analytics development. The annual base salary range for this role is USD 124,400 - 207,400.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, optimize, and maintain data architecture and data pipelines, including feeding medical data sources into a data lake for ongoing projects.
- Partner with a product manager and data lead to shape technical architectures for analytical models.
- Determine what data inputs are required for analytics (for example, using claims data for unmet need analysis).
- Gather, prepare, and maintain the datasets needed to perform analytics.
- Oversee data systems in close collaboration with the data management lead, ensuring accurate collection, storage, and processing of data within the team.
- Improve data infrastructure for scalability and optimize data delivery, including automating manual steps to retrieve medical data.
- Solve complex data problems to deliver insights that support the required analytics.
- Create data products that improve productivity for data scientists and facilitate team collaboration.
- Advise, consult, mentor, and coach other data and analytics colleagues on data standards and best practices.
- Support a culture of sharing, reuse, designing for scale stability, and operational efficiency in data and analytical solutions.
- Lead evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and analytics data engineering processes to improve team productivity.
Required experience and qualifications
- Demonstrated breadth of leadership experience, including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, and guide colleagues to meaningful outcomes and business impact.
- BA/BS degree (Computer Sciences, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, or similar).
- Relevant certification and/or work experience in data engineering.
- Either 6+ years of experience in data engineering (notably in the healthcare sector) or 5+ years of experience with MBA/MS.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional business environments.
- Strong influencing skills and interpersonal skills to build rapport and credibility with Pfizer leaders and external stakeholders.
- Ability to partner cross culturally/regionally.
- Effective English verbal and written communication, with flexibility to be clear, consistent, compliant, and appropriate for scientific/technical, promotional, patient/consumer, regulatory, and media contexts.
- In-depth understanding of the business of pharmaceutical medicine, including clinical trial design, GCP, and data interpretation, plus regulatory and promotional rules/guidance, legal and compliance, issue management, and business development opportunity evaluations.
- Experience with Infrastructure as code, data warehousing, and tools such as Apache Airflow and Kafka (or similar streaming data engineering tooling).
- Experience with Databricks and/or DSS Data Science Studio (Dataiku).
- Understanding of taxonomy structures and hierarchy.
- Experience planning and implementing methods including Tag Management Solutions such as Tealium iQ (primarily), GTM, Adobe Launch, Dynamic Tag Manager, and Ensighten.
- Ability to work with multiple tag managers and write JavaScript code.
- Experience with marketing performance analysis, including data aggregation (leveraging marketing and click-stream APIs, data cleaning, and transformation).
- Understanding of digital analytics, including clickstream data and Adobe and/or Google Analytics, and Drupal platforms.
- Knowledge of analytics tools including Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, /Omniture SiteCatalyst, and Matomo/Piwik.
- Knowledge of tag managers such as Tealium IQ, Adobe Launch/DTM, Google Tag Manager, Piwik Pro, and Signal/Bright Tag, plus tag debugging tools such as Charles Proxy.
- Programming language experience including JavaScript and jQuery.
- Markup language knowledge including HTML and CS.
- At least 1+ years in a client-facing role for solutioning and/or evangelizing technology approaches.
