Oracle Database Administrator (Data Engineer)
Job Description
This Oracle Database Administrator role focuses on designing, implementing, and operating secure, high-availability Oracle database solutions across on-prem and cloud environments.
Responsibilities
- Administer Oracle RAC databases on the IBM AIX Unix platform, including installation, setup, configuration, performance tuning, and operational support for high availability.
- Provision, migrate, optimize, and support enterprise Oracle databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Implement advanced security controls, including TLS 1.2 network encryption for client-to-database and server communication.
- Apply quarterly Critical Patch Updates (CPU) across database environments using Oracle Fleet Maintenance tools and OEM automation.
- Build, maintain, and test Oracle Data Guard physical standby configurations to support high availability, zero data loss, and fast failovers.
- Automate routine database administration tasks such as provisioning, backup monitoring, and health checks using Ansible and Shell scripting.
- Use OEM for proactive monitoring, diagnostics, and performance management.
- Manage incidents and change tickets in ServiceNow, including root cause analysis for incidents.
- Respond promptly to 24/7 on-call notifications for participation in major incident bridges and critical database alerts.
- Apply engineering principles when designing and enhancing new and existing systems.
- Document new system components and modifications to existing components.
- Ensure security and integrity of database and product solutions in line with Navy Federal, industry engineering, and Information Security practices.
- Support business needs with engineering tasks and assignments.
- Conduct engineering technology research, procurement, deployment, and configuration for new and modified systems.
- Provide technical leadership for the architecture discipline and development of information technology solutions.
- Communicate clear, organized, and concise information to multiple audiences to support business decisions.
- Perform installation, upgrade, and migration of Oracle RAC databases.
- Deliver performance tuning for production Oracle databases.
- Design and implement high availability solutions using Oracle RAC and Data Guard.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call DBA rotation supporting the production Oracle DB environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of Oracle Database Administrator experience with a proven track record administering Oracle RAC on the AIX platform.
- Cloud experience: hands-on experience creating and supporting database deployments in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or similar.
- Experience implementing and supporting Oracle Multi-tenant Architecture databases.
- Advanced automation scripting experience.
- Significant experience with Oracle EM and Oracle Fleet Maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering discipline.
- Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills.
