Quality and Patient Safety Hospital Data Analyst (remote eligible)
Job Description
Join the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, a leading academic health system dedicated to advancing patient outcomes and safety through data analytics. This remote-eligible Quality and Patient Safety Hospital Data Analyst role supports the Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the Sr Director of Quality and Patient Safety by turning EMR and other data into actionable insights that drive improvement in patient care and delivery. Location is San Antonio, TX, onsite with remote eligibility.
This position offers the chance to collaborate with cross-functional Quality Improvement teams, develop data-driven solutions, and shape strategies that enhance safety and clinical performance. You will design dashboards and reports, translate complex data for diverse audiences, and stay current with industry standards to support evidence-based decision making.
Responsibilities
- Apply statistical methods and quantitative analytics to draw actionable conclusions that align with business objectives and drive change.
- Partner with Quality Improvement teams to define metrics and craft data-driven solutions for clinical and operational initiatives.
- Examine large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
- Support strategic intelligence through report writing, dashboard development, and front-end scripting using PowerBI, SQL, and Excel.
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor KPIs tied to quality improvement goals.
- Present complex data as actionable insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders via visualizations, presentations, and written reports.
- Apply statistical modeling to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Integrate disparate data sources into a unified, manipulable dataset.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to acquire, validate, and integrate data for analysis.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge by engaging with technical journals, seminars, user groups, and workshops to learn about new developments and technology trends.
- Stay current with healthcare regulations and quality measurement standards (HEDIS, NCQA, CMS) and industry best practices.
- Mentor and guide colleagues across departments on available data tools and methodologies.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data Science, Business Analytics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related discipline.
- An advanced degree is a plus and may substitute for some experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in data analysis or analytics within the healthcare industry.
- Demonstrated experience supporting healthcare quality improvement efforts is highly desirable.
