QUALITY IMPROVEMENT DATA ANALYST - LEAD
Job Description
Lead Quality Improvement Data Analyst role in TennCare’s Quality Improvement (QI) Data Analytics team supporting the Chief Medical Office (CMO).
Responsibilities
- Deliver analytics and data expertise for CMO teams and TennCare Value Based Payment (VBP) programs
- Use claims data to surface key trends and insights that inform CMO leadership on clinical areas and outcomes
- Design strategies and methodologies to complete complex data requests
- Support the creation of new VBPs, attend related meetings, and provide data and quality measure expertise
- Write technical specifications for quality measures
- Code and calculate quality metrics using claims data, and produce requested analysis comparisons
- Evaluate quality measures at the individual provider and aggregate level using measure specifications and relevant information
- Run annual CMS Core Measures, including stratification by MCO and Region
- Research external data sources (including Medicare data) for inclusion in CMS Core Measures for mandatory reporting
- Query, collect, prepare, and safeguard data to deliver outputs required for CMS, legislative, and other ad-hoc requests
- Support high-priority legislative reporting at the request of CMO and TennCare leadership
- Review and summarize complex reports using analytics expertise
- Perform quality checks on data and reports provided by MCOs and collaborate with MCOs to complete reporting on time
- Develop advanced analytic approaches using multiple complex databases to build health outcome measures stratified by providers, hospitals, and MCOs
- Partner with clinical data leads to support development of the TennCare quality strategy
- Contribute to QI dashboard design and development
- Collaborate with other CMO teams to explore and use data specific to each team
- Provide technical assistance and training to new analysts, including claims data knowledge, answering technical questions, and reviewing projects for efficiency improvements
- Design and develop dashboards for CMO teams to highlight projects and initiatives, meeting CMO expectations and DA design standards
- Meet with teams to understand requirements and present final dashboards
- Develop methodology for pulling and/or aggregating data
- Assist with Data Ecosystem items, including providing expertise in meetings with the DE contractor
- Ensure data sources and methodology are correct
- Build expert-level knowledge of data sources and how they are used across projects
Requirements
- Education + experience option 1: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or related discipline AND 5+ years of relevant professional work experience
- Education + experience option 2: Master’s degree in a quantitative or related discipline AND 1 to 2+ years of relevant professional work experience
- Experience option 3: 10+ years of relevant professional work experience

Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in statistics, applied statistics, social or behavioral sciences, health sciences, business, business administration, or public policy, plus 4+ years full time work developing research methodology and/or directing statistical research
- OR Bachelor’s degree in statistics, applied statistics, social or behavioral sciences, health sciences, business, business administration, or public policy, plus 6+ years full time work developing research methodology
- Strong computer skills, including mastery of Microsoft tools (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and statistical software (SAS, R, Python, etc.)
- Strong, clear, and concise oral and written communication
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage workload to meet deadlines
- Experience with Tableau or Power BI
- Experience in other visualization software
- Experience in healthcare and/or quality measurement
- Experience in survey development and analysis
- Experience working with hospital data

Compensation: USD 89,496 - 143,220 per year
