Job Description

Axon is hiring a Senior Data Engineer II to strengthen and advance Axon’s Corporate Data Platform, a cloud-native data warehouse supporting enterprise reporting, self-service analytics, and Connected Intelligence initiatives. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role focused on designing, implementing, and optimizing modern data solutions across Snowflake and related platform technologies.

Role Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior technical anchor for Axon’s Corporate Data Platform by setting a high bar for engineering output, data modeling quality, testing rigor, observability, and production readiness.
  • Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines, models, and warehouse architecture using Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, and related modern data platform technologies.
  • Partner with the Principal Data Engineer, team lead, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape architectural decisions and deliver reliable, governed, and AI-ready data infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain clean, well-modeled datasets that support enterprise reporting, business self-service analytics, and AI-driven work-streams across Finance, Sales, Operations, and other business functions.
  • Contribute to Axon’s formal data governance framework, including data quality SLAs, audit-scoped monitoring across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, and SOX-relevant compliance controls.
  • Implement and uphold automated testing, monitoring, and data quality standards using tools such as dbt and Elementary to meet internal and external audit integrity requirements.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through thorough code reviews, pairing on complex problems, technical guidance, and proactive knowledge sharing.
  • Establish and evolve engineering best practices, including dbt conventions, data modeling patterns, testing standards, CI/CD workflows, and documentation practices.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, patterns, and platform capabilities that help Axon keep pace with growing enterprise data and AI needs.
  • Drive measurable impact through improvements in platform reliability, pipeline SLA adherence, data quality test pass rates, engineering quality, governance maturity, and team capability.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software engineering, or modern data platform development, with a record of delivering production-ready data pipelines, models, and warehouse solutions.
  • Hands-on expertise with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, and modern ELT or data warehouse architecture; experience with Elementary, Sigma, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or AI/ML-adjacent data tooling is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency using AI-powered engineering tools such as Cursor and Claude Code as part of day-to-day development workflows, with AI tooling expected to improve engineering quality, speed, documentation, testing, and problem-solving.
  • Strong skills in data modeling, SQL, testing, observability, and performance optimization, with a commitment to building reliable, governed, and maintainable data systems.
  • Experience supporting data governance, data quality frameworks, auditability, compliance controls, or SOX-relevant environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior individual contributor, including owning complex technical problems, influencing architecture, raising code quality, and delivering high-impact work with minimal close direction.
  • Passion for mentorship and team elevation through code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and helping set practical engineering standards.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, partnering effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders across Finance, Sales, Operations, and other functions.
  • Values-driven approach aligned with Axon’s mission and culture: ownership, integrity, and building systems that help the business move faster and smarter.
