Responsibilities
- Steer the data science and AI roadmap using deep mortgage industry knowledge to identify high-impact opportunities that improve P&L, efficiency, and risk management within regulatory constraints.
- Lead end-to-end architecture, development, and validation of advanced machine learning models and Generative AI solutions to transform underwriting automation, risk assessment, precision marketing, and servicing operations.
- Design robust data pipelines, feature stores, and automated deployment workflows; collaborate with data engineering to scale and maintain reliability for structured data and AI content needs.
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks for model validation and performance monitoring, ensuring compliance with financial regulations (eg, Fair Lending, UDAAP) with transparent executive and regulatory reporting.
- Mentor junior data scientists and foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning across the organization.
- Effectively and clearly communicate complex information to stakeholders.
- Perform related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline
- 8+ years of data science experience in financial services or the mortgage industry; online lending experience is a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage lifecycle, including credit risk, underwriting, and servicing
- Expert-level Python and advanced SQL skills for complex data manipulation and analysis
- Proven track record of building and maintaining production ML models; experience leading hands-on transitions of emerging AI (LLMs, RAG, Agentic Workflows) from PoC to compliant production environments
- Strong practical experience with data engineering principles, big data technologies, and cloud platforms
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities

- High learning agility to integrate business variables and adapt to new systems and platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and decision-making
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
