Job Description

Senior Data Scientist role at Trane Technologies, onsite in Davidson, NC, focusing on leading AI in Engineering initiatives to design, build, and deploy AI and data-driven solutions that boost engineering productivity and broaden access to knowledge across a globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

  • Create data science, machine learning, and generative AI solutions for engineering use cases such as data access, content extraction, data enrichment, retrieval and extraction, and agent-driven workflows.
  • Build and refine data pipelines, preprocessing workflows, and model-ready datasets for engineering, testing, and simulation data.
  • Design, validate, and deploy predictive, optimization, and AI-enabled applications that improve engineering productivity and decision-making.
  • Support AI software development lifecycle efforts by contributing to proofs of concept, evaluating use cases, planning implementations, and developing enterprise-facing tools.
  • Help convert fragmented engineering knowledge and historical data into searchable, reusable, agent-accessible resources to improve continuity and reduce knowledge loss.
  • Collaborate with engineering, modeling and simulation, controls, and digital teams to weave AI into tools, workflows, and product-development processes.
  • Contribute to engineering data and AI initiatives spanning domain-specific chatbots, regulatory and compliance tools, digital twins, time-series forecasting, solver acceleration, and physics-informed models.
  • Work with cloud platforms, connectors, registries, and orchestration frameworks to enable secure and scalable AI solutions for engineering teams.
  • Prepare concise technical readouts, visuals, and recommendations that communicate results and next steps to technical stakeholders and leadership.
  • Mentor junior team members, contribute to team standards, and help establish repeatable methods for AI and data science delivery across the international AI in Engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, model development, and application development.
  • Solid foundation in machine learning, statistical modeling, and generative AI concepts.
  • Experience handling raw, unstructured, and engineering data, including preprocessing, feature development, and preparing data for modeling workflows.
  • Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, cloud services, and modern AI/ML tooling.
  • Experience building or supporting applications, workflows, or services that operationalize analytics or AI solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively across a distributed, international team and partner with engineering stakeholders across multiple domains and locations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical business and engineering outcomes.

Where is the Work
