Senior Manager, Finance Analytics & Automation - Data Analyst (Contract)
Job Description
Contract Senior Manager, Finance Analytics & Automation at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, based in Boston, MA with a hybrid work arrangement, focusing on automating finance data processes and reporting to enable data-driven decision making over a six-month period.
Responsibilities
- Develops functional reporting capabilities to increase efficiency for global finance teams and empower senior leaders with self-service reporting of critical KPIs.
- Supports the transformation of the function through analytics by identifying data opportunities to address business challenges.
- Collaborates with functional leadership to identify and prioritize key financial analytics initiatives.
- Defines and scopes finance use cases by developing and implementing analytics models.
- Develops, tests, and validates various AI/ML models, then deploys them into production and integrates them with existing data and IT systems.
- Minimizes bias in algorithms using testing methods such as cross-validation, A/B testing, bias assessments, and stress testing.
- Effectively communicates insights to finance stakeholders by building reports, dashboards, and visualizations to democratize data insights.
- Uses data storytelling to deliver business insights to improve stakeholder understanding and uptake.
- Clearly communicates underlying methodologies and decision-making processes of models and algorithms to provide greater transparency for stakeholders.
- Continuously evolves processes and tools related to data analysis, visualization, and storytelling to improve decision making and automation, leveraging Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, and Python.
- Maintains governance and compliance, ensures that data and algorithms driving key business decisions are transparent and free of bias; applies quality control, data validation, and cleansing with Enterprise requirements in coordination with the DTE organization.
- Elevates analytical capabilities to incorporate higher-level concepts including quantitative and statistical analyses to deliver increased value and predictive insights.
- Serves as an inspirational and engaging Data lead who motivates and engages through demonstration of Vertex culture and values.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting.
- MBA or professional qualification preferred; CPA a plus.
- Typically requires years of relevant analytics experience with strong technical and analytical skills and a track record of success in a team-based environment, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; deep understanding of financial systems, analytics, and presentation/visualization, with a strategic vision for future finance workflows.
- Experience in the life sciences industry preferred; biotech or pharma industry experience is a plus.

- Solid foundation in statistical and mathematical concepts, theories, and applications such as linear algebra, probability, calculus, algorithms, and data structures.
- Understanding of algorithms including linear regression, logistic regression, regularization, decision trees, clustering, linear GAM, PCA, and matrix factorization techniques.
- Proficiency in data management, data mining, data analytics, data reporting, and quantitative analysis.
- Programming proficiency in Python.
- Experience with data manipulation libraries and data visualization tools (Power BI, Microsoft Co-Pilot).
Pay Range
$80-$85/HR
