Job Description

Xcel Energy is seeking a Senior/Principal Data Analyst to define, implement, and support advanced analytics solutions and capabilities. The role includes data integration and wrangling, building audience-appropriate visualizations, and communicating insights to stakeholders across technical and non-technical groups.

Location and Work Model

  • Location: Eau Claire, WI (hybrid)
  • Hybrid expectations: Many roles are expected to work onsite three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday). Work location expectations vary by role, team, and business needs.

Compensation

  • Anticipated starting base pay: USD 84,900 to USD 138,600 per year
  • Annual Incentive Program: Included

Role Summary

The Senior/Principal Data Analyst will focus on data integrity, advanced analytics delivery, and clear communication of results. Responsibilities include processing structured data, integrating datasets from multiple sources, manipulating complex data, and presenting findings through effective visualizations for multiple audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow consistent practices to maintain data integrity and address imperfections in data.
  • Process structured data, integrate datasets from various sources, and draw conclusions from data.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to support data understanding and appropriate data transformation, working cross-functionally with development and engineering teams.
  • Analyze large volumes of information to identify trends and patterns and generate actionable insights.
  • Develop efficient, high-quality code; follow validation processes to ensure consistency and minimize errors; adhere to version control standards.
  • Maintain and expand skills through continuing education, transitioning between languages to apply appropriate approaches.
  • Manage multiple tasks with the ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Communicate status and estimates clearly and in a timely manner to management and team members.
  • Create meaningful data visualizations that communicate results and business impact.
  • Use visualization techniques and delivery methods that fit the audience, including interactive, statistical, and exploratory options.
  • Communicate technical information to senior management, client community members, peers, and junior associates; develop relationships across and outside of IT.
  • Address analytic process challenges and influence others to adjust approaches in order to implement new tools or techniques.
  • Gain support from related stakeholders for analytic solutions.
  • Take a proactive approach to understanding industry and organization-specific business issues.
  • Participate in structured and self-study training; continually improve technical skills and learn new data sources.
  • Determine team workload and priority.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CIS, Statistics, Analytics or related IT degree, or sufficient experience
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in an analytics environment (minimum 8 years in analytics environment listed in requirements)
  • SQL expertise
  • Comfort working with large, complex datasets, including drawing conclusions and proposing recommendations
  • Proven ability to partner, collaborate, and communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues across business functions
  • Hands-on experience constructing visual analytics
  • Working knowledge of an analytics data warehouse and a big data platform
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of statistics, probability, and data pipelines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to wrangle data
  • Comfort working with structured and unstructured data
  • Hands-on experience constructing visual analytics with SAP products and or Microsoft Power BI
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a team
