Sr. Data Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, and reporting capabilities using GCP and BigQuery. You will partner with stakeholders to improve data quality, accessibility, security, and business intelligence outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, develop, maintain, and leverage data pipelines, data models, reporting, and dashboards on GCP and BigQuery to address business needs in coordination with multiple teams.
- Develop and maintain semantic models and reporting in Looker using LookML so business users can answer questions without writing SQL.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues affecting operational data pipelines, including file processing failures, data quality anomalies, and integration errors.
- Enhance and document complex data workflows by identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies, and optimize data processing and storage through automation to support data quality.
- Build a strong understanding of WellSky solutions and progress toward subject matter expert status in the healthcare domain.
- Contribute to code reviews by identifying improvement opportunities and supporting best practices and coding standards.
- Follow WellSky core values, ensure PHI data security, and adapt to changing BI technologies.
- Use AI tools and platforms as part of daily responsibilities to improve decision-making, streamline workflows, and drive data-informed outcomes.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience developing and supporting data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
- Experience with SQL Server data integration and ETL development, including SSIS or an equivalent tool.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and services, preferably within GCP environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience developing Looker and LookML.
- Experience using DBT for ELT/ETL, including data modeling, testing, and documentation.
- GCP expertise, especially Cloud SQL, BigQuery, and Datastream.
- Experience with data replication tools such as HVR, Datastream, or Fivetran, or similar CDC/replication technologies.
- Experience supporting BI and reporting environments such as Looker or Tableau using well-modeled, performant datasets, including migrating reporting between BI platforms.
- Git-based development practices, including pull requests, code review, and CI/CD.
- Python experience for data engineering, tooling, and automation.
- Healthcare industry experience.

Location and Experience
Onsite in Overland Park, KS. Minimum 4+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree (or relevant work experience) are required.
