Sr. Data Scientist
Job Description
The Sr. Data Scientist role at Brigham Young University supports institutional research and assessment by applying advanced data science techniques to build predictive models, perform sophisticated statistical analysis, and translate complex datasets into actionable insights for university leadership. This position works closely with campus stakeholders and helps partners use interactive reporting tools and data resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop predictive models and apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to institutional data.
- Analyze and integrate data from multiple sources to identify trends and address strategic university questions.
- Design and evaluate studies that measure the effectiveness of student success initiatives and institutional programs.
- Create dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that communicate actionable insights to university leadership.
- Develop and maintain automated reporting tools and analytical data structures.
- Address ad hoc analytical requests, documenting methods, assumptions, and findings.
- Train campus partners on interactive reporting tools and data resources.
- Stay current with emerging data science, analytics, and artificial intelligence methodologies to strengthen institutional research capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field, plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Expertise in Bayesian statistical modeling and advanced statistical analysis.
- Experience with predictive modeling, machine learning, and data visualization.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, R, or similar statistical programming languages.
- Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a related field and two to four years of relevant experience.
- Experience in higher education institutional research or assessment.

Location and Pay
Location: Provo, UT (onsite).
Salary: USD 118,500 - 154,000 per yearly.
Typical Starting Pay: $118,500 - $154,000.
Pay Grade: 56T.
