Job Description

Dexcom is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to shape the data backbone that underpins manufacturing operations. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining SQL database systems, optimizing MS SQL Server and GCP data platforms, and delivering near real-time insights through cross-functional collaboration. This remote position offers the opportunity to influence data modernization efforts across a global manufacturing ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL database systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Optimize and monitor MS SQL Server databases, ETL/ELT integrations, CDC, replication, GCP BigQuery data models using DBT, and GCP Iceberg archival to ensure high performance and data availability.
  • Drive database best practices and support data modernization initiatives by adopting technologies including Ai and MCP.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools and processes to proactively identify and address database related issues.
  • Implement and maintain ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and replication solutions to provide near real-time data across the globe for efficient storage and retrieval.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design systems, and implement database solutions, including stored procedures, table and schema design, data contracts for APIs, and data dictionaries to support manufacturing software systems.
  • Work with the Microsoft SQL Server stack and GCP stack, including SSIS, SSRS, PowerBI, PolyBase data virtualization, BigQuery, Datastream, Cloud Storage, BigLake tables for Apache Iceberg, Cloud SQL, and DBT.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams such as R&D, Operations, Process Engineering, Quality Assurance, Contract Manufacturers, and other stakeholders to enable data access for reporting and integration.
  • Collaborate with the IT security team to maintain PKI hardware security modules used for key management and cryptographic operations, assisting in configuration, installation, and ongoing maintenance to ensure secure operations.
  • Document solutions and train DBA teams on common issues and best practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the discipline to maintain updated documentation.
  • Working knowledge of data management and tools such as Jira, Jama, and Confluence.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative problem solver with attention to detail.
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and fluency in SQL Server 2012+.
  • Some DBA experience or knowledge of DBA best practices and an understanding of replication.
  • Nice to have experience with BigQuery, Iceberg, DBT, and open table formats or similar technologies, plus knowledge of VMware and SQL Server 2022.
  • Nice to have experience with Siemens Camstar.

Experience and Education Requirements

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 8-12 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 5-7 years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD with 2-4 years of experience.

Remote Workplace

This position is based in a home office. You are not required to live within commuting distance of a Dexcom site (typically 75 miles/120 km). If you are within commuting distance, a hybrid working arrangement may be available, with a Flex workplace option to discuss.

Salary

USD 128,600 - 214,400 per year
