Staff Data Scientist
Job Description
Evolve Vacation Rentals is hiring a Staff Data Scientist as an individual contributor to lead high-impact applied ML and data science work tied to data product initiatives. In this remote role, you will help drive production-grade machine learning from end to end, with direct impact on forecasting and pricing decisions.
What you’ll do
- Drive the technical direction and hands-on delivery for one or two prioritized applied ML or data science initiatives.
- Turn business opportunities into decision frameworks, technical approaches, clear success measures, and adoption and impact evaluation plans.
- Own end-to-end production ML systems, including data and feature pipelines, training and evaluation, batch or online inference, deployment, monitoring, failure handling, and ongoing iteration.
- Contribute to forecasting and demand/price-elasticity estimation, causal measurement, and optimization work that supports pricing and revenue decisions.
- Design and analyze experiments and quasi-experiments to evaluate product, model, and policy changes.
- Set reusable standards for testing, reproducibility, versioning, observability, documentation, and responsible model operation, and review team designs and code.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, Revenue Management, and other business owners to make technical tradeoffs and integrate models into products and operating workflows.
- Mentor data scientists, strengthen the team’s technical judgment, and create leverage beyond your own projects while staying hands-on.
Requirements
- Typically 6+ years applying data science, statistics, econometrics, or machine learning to consequential business problems.
- Demonstrated Staff-level scope, including leading ambiguous cross-functional DS or ML work from early ideas through sustained production use, influencing technical direction beyond a single project, and building leverage for other contributors.
- Strong Python and SQL skills, with the ability to write tested, maintainable production code and work effectively with large datasets.
- Experience owning production ML systems, including deployment or scoring, monitoring, failure handling, operational support, and post-launch iteration.
- Applied statistics and model evaluation judgment, including experimentation and causal inference fundamentals, with experience contributing to economic or optimization work.
- Ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes and communicate tradeoffs clearly to technical, product, business, and executive audiences.
- A self-directed, collaborative working style that supports prioritization across a broad problem space, direct feedback, influence without formal authority, and hands-on execution in a lean remote environment.

- Paid parental leave: 16-18 weeks for birthing parents and 10 weeks for non-birthing parents, plus infertility coverage.
