Staff Data Scientist: Intelligent Process Automation Solutions Designer

Join Intuit’s Intelligent Process Automation team in San Diego, CA (onsite) to design, automate, and optimize end-to-end workflows across Customer Success. You’ll work with cloud-based architectures, AI and LLM-driven systems, and hands-on implementation to deliver measurable outcomes across scalability, customer experience, and operational efficiency.

This role sits at the intersection of business strategy and technical execution. You will translate business needs into solution blueprints, oversee delivery from concept through production, and help build agentic capabilities that support autonomous business processes and human decision-making.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design and deployment of intelligent process automation solutions across Customer Success and adjacent business units.
• Architect integrated systems connecting CRM, data pipelines, APIs, and AI services using AWS, Jenkins, and microservice (MSAAS) environments.
• Translate business requirements into solution blueprints and software design documentation covering data flow, integration points, and automation logic.
• Oversee solution design through production, ensuring alignment with Intuit automation strategy and governance frameworks.
• Build, train, and validate functional models across both classical ML (classification, regression, ranking) and LLM-based approaches (fine-tuning, prompt engineering, RAG).
• Develop agentic AI capabilities that can autonomously perform business processes or support human decision-making.
• Design LLM-based interfaces and workflows for process orchestration, text understanding, and automation triggering.
• Prototype, evaluate, and deploy new AI/ML and NLP solutions with measurable business value while meeting data governance standards.
• Build and deploy Python-based automation frameworks, scripts, and microservices to optimize workflows.
• Implement robust CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and AWS tools for automated deployment and version control of process automations.
• Ensure automations are secure, compliant, and scalable using AWS security frameworks and best practices.
• Collaborate with business leaders, product managers, and data engineers to identify automation opportunities and define success metrics such as CSAT, efficiency, and ROI.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across automation initiatives; mentor peers and support a center of excellence for automation design and governance.

What you bring

• Hands-on experience building, training, and deploying functional models across both classical ML and LLM-based approaches (weighted more heavily than API integration or orchestration experience alone).
• Python programming experience (required). Experience with JavaScript or Go is a plus.
• Experience in process automation, process mining, data pipelines, and system integrations using APIs and cloud-native tools.
• Expertise building and fine-tuning LLMs and agentic AI systems that interact with APIs, data, and end-users beyond simply calling third-party LLM APIs.
• Proficiency in AWS services including Lambda, S3, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, and CloudFormation.
• Experience with Jenkins, microservices, and MSAAS architectures.
• Understanding of event-driven automation and data governance/security principles.
• Ability to design solutions balancing technical feasibility with business impact; strong business acumen for operational processes and automation ROI.
• Clear communication skills to articulate technical strategy to non-technical stakeholders, plus proven ownership and influence in cross-functional settings.
• Experience driving process transformation initiatives across large-scale organizations.
• Exposure to contact center, CRM, or customer service technologies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.

Compensation & benefits

• Expected base pay range: San Diego $185,500 - $251,000 per year
