Telemetry/Data Engineer

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks a Telemetry Data Engineer to design, implement, and operate telemetry data flows for Advana’s AI/ML platform across multiple security enclaves, enabling observability and rapid incident triage. This on-site role is based in Washington, DC, with a salary range of USD 111,155 - 150,385 per year. A Bachelor's degree is required, and additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain telemetry data pipelines for Advana AI/ML model serving across Unclassified/NIPRNet, Secret/SIPRNet, and Top Secret/JWICS enclaves, supporting Combatant Commands, Joint Staff directorates, Senior Executive Service leaders, and CDAO mission teams.
• Standardize telemetry payloads from APIs, reverse proxies, model runtimes, and data services into structured streams that feed monitoring and analytics platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Splunk, and cloud-native observability services.
• Establish schema governance, serialization formats, and consistent field naming for latency, errors, throughput, and model performance to unify telemetry across Kubernetes clusters, container platforms, and Advana microservices.
• Develop routing and transformation logic using Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or equivalent message queues to move telemetry into long-term analytic stores and mission dashboards.
• Collaborate with model serving engineers, DevSecOps pipeline personnel, and cybersecurity analysts to embed telemetry hooks into deployment templates, runtime configurations, and automated test stages supporting mission assurance and rapid triage.
• Create and maintain operational dashboards, data quality checks, anomaly detection rules, and runbooks that support watch floor operations, incident response cells, and Engineering Control Board reviews.
• Produce data flow diagrams, telemetry interface specifications, and configuration documentation to strengthen observability, enable cross-domain promotions, and advance Advana enterprise reliability and decision advantage.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• 8+ years of experience developing telemetry data flows for AI and machine learning systems
• IAT II – Security+
• TS with SCI eligibility
