Visual Analytics Developer/Designer
Job Description
Donnelly & Moore Corporation seeks a Visual Analytics Developer/Designer for a utility client in Rye, NY. This contract engagement emphasizes Azure, Tableau, and Power BI, with a 12+ month duration and a hybrid work arrangement that includes onsite work for local candidates.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high quality Tableau and Power BI dashboards that visually communicate performance trends, operational insights, and business outcomes.
- Translate complex datasets into intuitive analytics that help stakeholders quickly understand key drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to capture analytical needs and define visualization requirements, including KPIs, metrics, and storytelling approaches.
- Create business solutions that enhance efficiency, productivity, and decision making across operating units.
- Work with the data analytics team and IT to ensure data sources, view tables, and models are accurate, performant, and aligned with business definitions.
- Gather, document, and validate detailed business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and System Requirement Specifications (SRS).
- Develop and maintain system interfaces and business process specifications related to analytics and reporting solutions.
- Ensure dashboards adhere to visual design, usability, and accessibility best practices, including consistency, clarity, and effective use of color, layout, and interaction.
Requirements
- 2 to 5 years of demonstrated experience in visual analytics, business intelligence, or data visualization roles.
- Strong expertise in visual analytics and data storytelling, with the ability to present insights in a clear, business-focused manner.
- Solid visual design sensibility and familiarity with data visualization best practices such as chart selection, layout, hierarchy, and storytelling.
- Proven ability to work directly with business users to gather requirements, facilitate discussions, and create user stories that translate business needs into analytics solutions.
- Proficiency in Azure DevOps or similar sprint and backlog management tools.
- Advanced expertise in Tableau Desktop, including dashboard and worksheet creation, calculated fields, parameters, action filters, data source management, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Advanced expertise in Power BI, including interactive dashboard and report development, data modeling, DAX, and report troubleshooting and optimization.
- Proficient in SQL with the ability to write and edit queries.
- Experience building and publishing interactive dashboards on Tableau Server, with knowledge of scheduling dashboards for automatic data refresh and data blending.
- Ability to create action filters, parameters, and calculations for preparing dashboards and worksheets in Tableau.
- Experience testing, cleaning, and standardizing data to meet business standards.
- Knowledge of SAS Visual Analytics.
