Data Analyst
Job Description
Skywalk Global is seeking a Data Analyst to support cost optimization and strategic planning across Azure cloud services and on-premises workloads. This onsite role in Richmond, VA focuses on turning IT financial data into clear reporting, forecasts, and insights that help teams align spending with operational realities.
What you’ll do
- Analyze and interpret IT financial data across Azure and VITA environments, covering consumption, billing, and chargeback models.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to track cost trends, illustrate server migration impacts, and identify workload optimization opportunities.
- Conduct variance analysis for monthly and annual IT spend, flagging anomalies and pointing to potential savings.
- Manually maintain and enhance datasets sourced from Apptio, Azure Portal, and SharePoint to keep data accurate and complete.
- Document processes and procedures used for financial reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with the technical cloud team, I&O team, and finance stakeholders to ensure cost models reflect real operational conditions.
- Support Azure migration planning by modeling server cost scenarios and forecasting reserve capacity needs.
- Contribute to FinOps strategy by providing insights on cost drivers and utilization patterns.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field (Required 4 Years).
- Advanced Power BI proficiency, including Power Query and DAX, plus advanced Excel and data visualization best practices (Required 6 Years).
- Some experience with data modeling and data manipulation to maintain datasets from multiple heterogeneous sources (Required 5 Years).
- High familiarity with Azure cost management, Apptio, and cloud billing structures (Required 5 Years).
- Understanding of server migration strategies and workload cost modeling (Required 5 Years).
- Ability to translate technical data into insights for technical teams and managers (Required 5 Years).
- FinOps certification or training.
- Experience with Azure Reserved Instances and Just-In-Time (JIT) capacity planning.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture and strategic IT planning frameworks.
- Ability to work independently, apply critical thinking to analyze complex financial data, and deliver actionable recommendations (Required 4 Years).
- Ability to independently update data, run queries, and manage and analyze datasets with little to no assistance (Required 6 Years).
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, accurate, and actionable information for leadership and decision-making (Required 4 Years).
