Business Intelligence Data Engineer
Job Description
Golden State Foods is seeking a hands-on Business Intelligence Data Engineer to join our Frisco, TX on-site team. The role centers on building and maintaining the data warehouse and ETL/ELT pipelines, evaluating BI and data-warehouse tools, and powering reporting and visualization for users across the organization. A four-year degree in a quantitative field and strong SQL plus ETL experience form the foundation for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Interpret business requirements to identify source data systems, resolve data issues, and coordinate with data analysts to validate needs; conduct user and developer interviews to gather requirements.
- Map data from source systems to data warehouse tables.
- Design, test, and validate data flows; implement ETL/ELT processes aligned with business requirements and ensure design specifications reflect those requirements.
- Define and capture metadata and rules associated with ETL processes.
- Adapt ETL processes to accommodate changes in source systems and evolving business needs.
- Collaborate with developers and business users to gather data and execute ETL programs and scripts; support data warehouse activities and prepare related reports.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for ETL processes and related documentation.
- Foster partnerships across application, business, and infrastructure teams.
- Pursue continuous improvement of software delivery practices and processes.
- Champion company standards and best practices.
Requirements
- A four-year college degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or commensurate work experience.
- Experience as a BI Data Engineer or related roles (e.g., Software Engineer, BI Engineer, Data Scientist) with a track record in understanding, manipulating, processing, and extracting value from various systems.
- Strong proficiency in SQL.
- Expertise with ETL tools such as Matillion, Informatica, SSIS, ODI, and/or other data manipulation languages such as Python, SAS, and R.
- Creative in designing innovative methods, systems, and processes.
- Desire to create and build predictive or optimization tools for structuring datasets.
- Extensive experience in Data Warehousing development: Star Schema modeling, slowly changing dimensions, row-level security, standard DW architecture, troubleshooting, and production support.
