Data Analyst – Justice Services Division
Job Description
El Paso County in Colorado Springs is seeking a Data Analyst for the Justice Services Division. The role centers on building in-house data infrastructure, establishing dashboards and reporting standards, and supporting high-stakes reviews and quarterly reporting. This onsite position offers a salary between USD 70,000 and 79,140 per year and requires at least three years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
- Handle a range of complex data activities including collection, analysis, documentation, and interpretation of data tied to applicable requirements and initiatives; independently draw sound conclusions and present findings.
- Create data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enhance data-driven efforts, frameworks, data delivery, and dashboards.
- Perform research, compile data, and apply statistical methods to identify patterns and trends; identify root causes, project consequences, and provide data-informed recommendations.
- Design, validate, and assess data collection and analysis methods; implement protocols for data extraction and analysis; monitor collection practices and audit data for compliance with methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce qualitative and quantitative analyses that support organizational objectives and the strategic plan.
- Conduct comprehensive and special-purpose analyses, audits, and examinations; evaluate program compliance, quality, effectiveness, and outcomes; assess adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements; recommend and implement analytics practices to support programs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and propose system modifications and data management strategies to enhance data quality and usability.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for function-specific systems, databases, and data integrity; oversee staff training on data collection and quality assurance; provide technical assistance and user support.
- Lead or participate in data-driven work groups or committees; collaborate with internal and external partners to improve database and system efficiency, offering recommendations.
- Apply domain knowledge to guide leadership, staff, and external sources on department data, policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge regarding industry standards, regulations, and best practices to inform operational improvements.
- Contribute to organizational performance measurement efforts and support related initiatives and activities.
- Gather, organize, and prepare data and presentations; deliver data-driven briefings at leadership meetings, conferences, or other forums as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in data collection, synthesis, or analysis with hands-on work in databases, queries, and visualization tools (SQL, BI tools, and related technologies).
- Ability to convey insights through storytelling with data and translate numbers for courts, boards, and the public.
- Capability to remain effective while coordinating with multiple stakeholders who view the data from different perspectives.

Supervision Exercised

- Duties are primarily performed in an office environment with remote work possible depending on department discretion and business needs. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
